Our food adventure to Terrain Café is one we have been looking forward when our oldest daughter mentioned about the restaurant for a place to eat for her birthday. Terrain Café is much more than a restaurant. For us it became apparent that it’s a food and shopping experience like no other.
Terrain Café, per the website, offers seasonally changing brunch, lunch, and dinner menus featuring hand-selected local produce, meats, and dairy alongside a thoughtfully curated beverage program from near and far. Each cafe’s décor is unique, providing an inspiring dining experience every time.
I definitely can attest to that as this is our third food adventure to Terrain Café and each time we step in feels like our first time. When I visited Terrain Café last holiday season for lunch, the greenhouse had been transformed into a Winter Wonderland and it was simply magical. I can tell that the staff at Terrain Café is intentional in creating an enchanted experience from the time the customers walk in until they leave.
The story behind how Terrain Café started is that Terrain’s founder, Dick Hayne, having just rekindled a friendship with his own garden but wanting for a local source of inspiration, set about gathering a group of like-minded plant, home, and design enthusiasts who would soon become the first Terrain employees.
In the spring of 2008, they opened the doors of their flagship location in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania on the site of the historic J. Franklin Styer’s Nursery. Since that cool spring they’ve been busily growing, opening an expanded online shop and additional brick-and-mortar locations in Westport, CT and Devon, PA.
With every season they’ve learned something new from their customers, a fellow community of curious gardeners and foodie alike, all quick to share when discovering a fresh idea, an exciting plant cultivar, or gardening secret. It follows that Terrain has become a place to gather, to explore and share, to simply take in the garden’s hidden places or in our case enjoy the delicious food that is offered every changing season.
As a foodie enthusiast, I couldn’t wait to dive in the menu and experience it. It was love at first sight when our waitress brought Terrain’s famous bread in the cutest bread pot. The butter is flavored differently every time I have been and it just melts on the warm bread and in your mouth.
The Smoked Salmon Toast was my favorite and it comes with crème fraîche, crispy capers, dill, beet relish and everything spice. Salmon tastes so divine with everything and whenever I visit a place and they have salmon on the menu, it’s my go to.
The Harvest Bowl with quinoa, seasonal vegetables, crispy chickpeas, spicy kale falafel and tahini vinaigrette was to die for. Our oldest daughter eats vegan so that was perfect for her and she has been raving about how simple and delicious it tastes.
We tried the Wild Mushroom Frittata and who can say no to a healthy serving of frittata. It comes with free-range eggs, wild mushrooms, goat cheese, potato hash and simply dressed greens. Wouldn’t want this to be served for you in bed and feel the love in every bite? I think so and glad it was on the menu.
For those breakfast lovers like us, the hearty and healthy Terrain Breakfast is a must have on your visit. The two free-range eggs, applewood smoked bacon, maple breakfast sausage, potato hash, sourdough and simply dressed greens is sure to make your taste buds glad.
Our Food Adventure To Terrain Café wouldn’t be complete without a good drink to cheer us on our visit to Terrain. It’s all about celebrating the yummy moments with family and friends and Terrain Café is a must visit for an experience that sure is to last you for years to come.
Hubby hasn’t been yet and we can’t wait to have another one of our food adventure to Terrain Café with him. I can’t wait to see what the staff has in store for us when we visit next time because I know they take pride in displaying the best of nature all around the store and on the café menu.
Yummy food choices! I love Terrian 😁!
