3 Essentials of Christian Parenting In Today’s Culture

Kindergarten At Home Hands On Dr Seuss Activities3 Essentials of Christian parenting in today’s culture is understanding that training our children in the way they should go doesn’t mean that our children will be exempt from the hardships of the world. The current climate in the culture has been preying on our children and has been making it quite difficult not to be concerned or anxious about our children’s safety and well-being.
We are called as Christian parents not to be anxious about anything, but in every parenting situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, to present our requests to God so that the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and not on the situations we can’t control.
when Hubby and I started thinking about having children, I thank God for putting on our hearts to cover our girls in prayer before they were even conceived. Parenting is one calling we understood not to enter in lightly because once our children were conceived, we could tell the battle was on because even going to the various prenatal visits felt like entering a war zone with the enemy shooting its shot at every angle.
3 Essentials of Christian parenting in today’s culture is the need as parents to put on the whole armor of God and cover our children with God’s presence, protection and power because greater is He that is in us and in our children than he that is in the world.
Dear WELLthy Mom Grieving The Loss of A ChildWhen the going gets tough because tough parenting times may come, Hubby and I refuse to sit in the sidelines and watch our children go to battle alone. Christian parenting in today’s world is about understanding that God has armed us with all the tools we need to join our children in the battle. Here are the 3 Essentials of Christian parenting in today’s culture inspired by Philippians 4:6-7:
  1. Prayer: Prayer, according to Stormie Omartian in her empowering book The Power of a Praying Parent, is seeking God’s presence and releasing God’s power which gives us parents the means to overcome any parenting situation. Fighting on our knees for our children is coming alongside them and arming us and them with the whole armor to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the enemy.
  2. Petition: There is something about perseverance that results in staying the course no matter how difficult the situation is because the outcome is worth standing firm for. Parenting is not an event but a process that requires us to be stubborn with a purpose when it comes to our children. Our children are worth fighting for and the win will only come when we do not give up but petition God over and over on their behalf.
  3. Thanksgiving: It’s definitely difficult to be thankful when the going gets tough but from what I understand thanksgiving is not about what we see but who we know is on our side. It’s been said that if there is a Goliath in front of you, that means that there’s a David in you. The David in you doesn’t focus on Goliath’s size but on God’s size and might. When you know who goes before you in the parenting battle, you can’t help but be thankful because you know the situation does not stand a chance. It’s confusing to the enemy when we offer praise and thanksgiving in hard times but that’s what makes us different from other faiths. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure, and that hope in the midst of tough times makes us keep the faith in thanksgiving. It makes no sense at the moment but it makes all the difference in the long run.

When we have done our part with the 3 Essentials of Christian parenting in today’s culture, the result is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding to guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. A praying, perseverant and thankful parent is surely a powerful parent because such parent knows the keys to unlock peace not panic in the midst of a parenting storm.

My prayer is for all of us parents to know that we are equipped, qualified and not alone in the parenting journey. God wants us to start where we are, use what we have in our parenting box, and do what we can understanding that the effective, fervent prayer of a Christian parent avails much. We are in this together and God got us so let’s not grow weary in fighting for our children because they need us and they are worth it!
