Embracing My African Culture In Everyday Fashion

Embracing My African Culture In Everyday FashionEmbracing My African Culture In Everyday Fashion is my way to connect and share my African culture with Hubby and my girls. For those new to the blog, I am originally from Cote D’Ivoire in West Africa and for as long as I remember, I had the perception that African print clothing was for traditional events. I bought in the belief that western fashion was so much better than African fashion that anytime any relative will come home from the US or Europe, I will ask for the latest Western fashion trend.

Embracing My African Culture In Everyday FashionFast forward to when I became a new mom, my mom visited me from Cote D’Ivoire and I asked her to bring me some African print clothing for our brand new family. To say I fell in love with African fashion was an understatement and Hubby couldn’t get enough of how royal he felt. We received so many compliments that signaled the resurgence of interest in African fashion not just with me but with the world around us.

Embracing My African Culture In Everyday FashionEmbracing My African Culture In Everyday Fashion took a shift when I decided to incorporate in my everyday wear instead of just special occasions. When I visited home after 30 years, I reconnected with my roots more than ever so wearing African fashion is my way to extend that connection with home. Wearing African clothing actually makes me feel empowered and help me embrace my uniqueness as an African woman in America.

Embracing My African Culture In Everyday FashionEmbracing My African Culture In Everyday Fashion was heightened by the release of the amazing movie Black Panther a few years ago that spread the interest of more people re-learning about African culture, including yours truly. My girls took so much pride in their African descent and seeing African culture being reinforced in the media was all the motivation I needed.

Embracing My African Culture In Everyday FashionLiving in the North East makes it a bit challenging to wear all year long but it’s helping be more creative transitioning through the seasons and I love the variety in my wardrobe. Embracing My African Culture In Everyday Fashion is much more than wearing African print fabric. It’s about where I come from, who I am and taking my everyday African fashion wherever life journey takes me.
