Ivorian Food Recipe with Attieke Poisson

Ivorian Food Recipe with Attieke PoissonIvorian Food Recipe of Attieke Poisson is one of my favorite recipes from my home country of Cote D’Ivoire made with Attieke. Attieke is a traditional Côte d’Ivoire dish made with fermented ground cassava roots that we Ivorians love to eat. The most popular recipe, Attiéké poisson (attieke with fried fish) is prepared with a tomato and onion salad, a favorite Côte d’Ivoire national dish.

Ivorian Food Recipe of Attieke Poisson showcases a recipe that my family and I love to eat some Fry-days because what’s a Friday without something fried on your plate. Hubby is from Barbados and it’s amazing how the majority of Bajan dishes are influenced with African cuisine.

Ivorian Food Recipe with Attieke PoissonI am fortunate to have an International market here in Fairfield County, Connecticut where I can find some Ivorian and Bajan ingredients to make home cooked meals from Cote D’Ivoire or Barbados. We also have an African store that I enjoy getting African items to make Ivorian Food Recipe of Attieke Poisson.

Ivorian Food Recipe of Attieke Poisson is one of the staple dishes you can find at all hours in the streets of Abidjan where I grew up. I usually make mine with the tomato sauce along with onion and tomato salad but today I added some kale to the salad to change things a bit.

Attieke Poisson Ingredients:

  • 1 ball Attieke (it comes precooked)
  • olive oil
  • black pepper
  • bouillon cube

Steam the Attieke for 6 to 7 minutes. Transfer it to a bowl and add the bouillon cube, black pepper and two tablespoons of vegetable oil. Then mix well.

Fried Fish

  • 7 croaker or Pompano fish (cleaned and cut in pieces)
  • sea salt
  • black pepper
  • vegetable to fry
  • 1 medium onion, sliced

Wash the fish and dry with paper towel. Season with sea salt and black pepper. In a deep frying pan, add enough vegetable oil to deep fry the fish on high heat. When you think it’s hot enough, add the onions and they should quickly come back to the surface. Place enough fish pieces in the frying pan to have room to turn them around and fry about 10 minutes on each side or until beautifully golden.

Kale Tomato and Onion Salad

  • 2 fresh tomatoes
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • kale
  • italian dressing
  • The WELLthy Mom GPS (Garlic Powder, black Pepper and Sea Salt)

Mix all the ingredients and set aside.

Tomato sauce:

  • 1 small red onion, diced or sliced
  • 1 jar tomato and basil pasta sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • The WELLthy Mom GPS (Garlic Powder, black Pepper and Sea Salt)

Heat the oil and sauté onions. Season with The WELLthy Mom GPS and add the pasta sauce until it bubbles. In a plate, put the Ivorian Food Recipe of Attieke Poisson with Attieke, kale onion tomato salad, fried fish and tomato sauce topped with some slice scotch bonnet for those who love spicy like me.

I usually make enough for two days because it tastes even better the next day. It also helps that I don’t have to cook the next day and I can enjoy time with Hubby and my girls. That’s WELLthy living and smart time managing. Bon Appetit et Bisous!
