Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is one we had planned because our oldest has plans to be an engineer.  Hubby and I are very passionate about education and take every opportunity we get to make our daughters understand how important an education is.

Our College Tour To the Massachusetts Institute of Technology last summer was full of memories.  The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is 3 hours from our home in CT which passes the test for keeping our daughters close to home if we can help it.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology meant a yummy stop to Wegmans Food Market to our daughters’ delight.  Wegmans was the first company I work for so it holds a special place in my heart.  It helps that the food is simply amazing.  We had to take into consideration the fact that we have a toddler in our midst so we stayed on target.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology first stop was the William Barton Rogers building.  William Barton Rogers was a noted geologist and educator who had a vision for a new educational model. He began to organize and promote his ideas for a “polytechnic” institute as early as the 1840s. And he pursued his ideas until MIT was finally founded in 1861. He served as MIT’s first president and his life would end, in 1882, in service to the Institute.

The Alchemist sculpture representing a thinking man comprised of numbers and math functions caught our attention from across the street so we made our way to explore it.  Jaume Plensa’s Alchemist from 2010 was commissioned by an anonymous donor on the occasion of the Institute’s 150th anniversary and given to MIT in honor of all the alumni who have helped support the Institute over the years.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)Alchemist is related to Plensa’s other works, Nomade (2010) and El Alma Del Ebro (2010), which are made of randomly arranged stainless steel letters of the alphabet, painted white and arranged in the shape of a person sitting with knees drawn up to the chest. However, in the place of letters of the alphabet, Plensa’s work for MIT is created from numeric symbols, as an “homage to all the researchers and scientists“ that have contributed to scientific and mathematical knowledge.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was one of our first choice because of its history and culture.  MIT has created a culture of inclusion that supports and learns from the diverse skills and perspectives that exist in its community. The Institute supports student growth by providing opportunities to bond, expand and grow, as well as to step outside a given worldview in order to appreciate diverse life experiences.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is often ranked as one of the world’s most prestigious universities.  Founded in 1861 in response to the increasing industrialization of the United States, MIT adopted a European polytechnic university model and stressed laboratory instruction in applied science and engineering.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)The Institute is traditionally known for its research and education in the physical sciences and engineering, but more recently in biology, economics, linguistics and management as well.
Since its incorporation in 1861, MIT has upheld its abiding commitment to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and related areas of scholarship. Teaching and research—with relevance to the practical world as a guiding principle—continue to be the Institute’s primary purpose as it serves the nation and the world.

The mission of MIT is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the twenty-first century. We were happy to discover that MIT takes pride in seeking to develop in each member of the MIT community the ability and passion to work wisely, creatively, and effectively for the betterment of humankind.

Our College Tour To The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)During our college tour to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, we came across a kids triathlon that was taking place and our daughters are making plans to attend in the near future.  My oldest has been passionate about software engineering and even though we may not know what the future holds, we are glad that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is one university that she said she would definitely consider.  We are also glad that we could make time for such an unforgettable college tour.
