Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village is our second visit at Florence Griswold Museum to revel in the enchanted outdoor installation of the museum’s grounds for a family fun day. The annual Wee Faerie Village is nothing less than a phenomenon and our family was definitely looking forward to.
Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village was this year themed around Lettersburg Junction, the enchanting town where the wee faeries live in alphabetically placed houses resembling all the letters of the alphabet, from A to Z. There’s also the quaint hamlet of Numbertown and Punctuation Stations.
Lettersburg Junction features over three-dozen faerie-scaled places on the Museum’s campus that celebrate the alphabet in a wee faerie fun and imaginative way. The town is protected by the Marvelous Vowels, a band of superhero faeries – A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y.
Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village began with an exploration of Lettersburg Junction armed with our DIRECTIONARY to follow the numbered mushroom-shaped icons and locate all the important sites in the town. Each stop has a special something hidden for my enchanted detectives of daughters to find.
Before reaching the Letter A for Arielle’s Artist Atelier, our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village took an enchanted turn when we ran into the “bronze” sculpture of French Impressionist Auguste Renoir to my daughters’ delight, especially when they realized that the “bronze” sculpture is very much “alive”.
Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village ended at the Letter Z for Zeelandia and we knew it called for a celebration so to the fun parade featuring the Chester Fife & Drum Corps, marching all around the village, we went. Then it was time to enjoy a lovely lunch at Cafe Flo, located on the veranda overlooking the Lieutenant River. We had the choice to dine inside with table service on the veranda or picnic on the lawn.
The Café’s delicious and inventive dishes are prepared by Gourmet Galley using only the freshest ingredients available from local farmers and purveyors. Our Family Adventures To The Wee Faerie Village called for some hot dogs and macaroni and cheese for the girls while I settled for a warm meat chili. Besides water, we delighted ourselves with their deliciously warm apple cider with oatmeal raisin cookies and brownies.
Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village was purely magical and filled with WELLthy MOMents, especially when my girls spent quite some time looking for the earthworm in Eggplant Enclave. I cherish those moments because it teaches me to tap into my own sense of wonder through any of our family adventures.
Our Family Adventure To The Wee Faerie Village is a reminder of what happens when art meets imagination to connect a child’s sense of wonder to the world around them. I am definitely thankful for our family adventures because it reminds me how important for us parents to be intentional in accumulating assets of WELLthy MOMents. There is still time to join in the enchanting fun at Florence Griswold Museum until October 28 and remember to visit the shop at the museum for a great selection of art and faerie-inspired books, gifts and toys.
