Our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center was exactly what my oldest daughter and I needed to create WELLthy MOMents together. Hubby and I do not believe in sleepover whatsoever and when Babygirl asked us if she could join her Girl Scout troop for an overnight stay, we decided that it would be a rare opportunity to enjoy together this exclusive after-hours experience.
Our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center was our very first overnight stay and I am thankful for other Girl Scout moms who were eager to share their experiences and help us prepare as best for the weekend. One of those moms stressed the importance of a twin air mattress for each of us and I am definitely grateful that we heeded the advice.
It was not our first time visiting the Connecticut Science Center and we couldn’t wait to spend the weekend there. The Connecticut Science Center is a nine-story museum located on the Connecticut River in Hartford, Connecticut and it includes 40,000 square feet of interactive exhibits consisting of more than 165 hands-on exhibits, a state-of-the-art 3D digital theater, four educational labs, plus daily programs and events. The Connecticut Science Center offers endless exploration for children, teens, and adults. From physics to forensics, geology to astronomy, visitors have the sciences at their fingertips.
Our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center started with our Girl Scout troop meeting in the lobby before heading on the 6th floor to our assigned sleeping area. The entire museum was buzzing with excited scouts and parents ready for the weekend ahead and our girls enjoyed some of the exhibits on the floor and in the lobby before taking part into a hands-on STEM fun learning activity together.
We headed to the Sight and Sound exhibit where we were welcome to a world where we could feel sound and hear light. In the Sight and Sound Experience, we got moving, posed and saw ourselves frozen from all angles at Freeze Frame 360. The girls got too much into it but thankfully we convinced to take a look at the Real Bodies, the exhibition that uses real human specimens to explore the complex inner workings of the human form in a refreshing and thought-provoking style. System by system, the Exhibition provides an approachable and fascinating insight into what’s happening inside every one of us. We didn’t finish the exhibition because the idea of real human specimens started not to appeal to our Juniors.
Next for our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center we explored the Forces in Motion exhibit to find out answers to how far can a robot throw a ball, what makes a high-flying machine fly or if a fast-moving car can have square wheels. The girls then designed their cars and tested its speed on the test track to see who can keep motion-related designs flying longer, racing faster or shooting straighter. They then decided to work together to build the catenary arch and the excitement at the end was worth all the hard work.
We enjoyed a live demonstration in the Gallery Science where we joined the Connecticut Science Center’s robot mascot, Quiz, and transformed our understanding of robots as we look at how they work and why they are an important part of our daily lives. Our girls enjoyed hands-on with robotic activities like coding, Cubelets, bot building, flight simulators and it was everything for my future engineer.
It was time for a sweet reward at our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center with a stop at FroYo. We couldn’t wait to enjoy the Turtle Odyssey 3D and got in line with popcorn and cookies in hands. Turtle Odyssey explores the unique lifecycle of an Australian green sea turtle named Bunji and her incredible journey across the open ocean.
The film follows Bunji the green sea turtle from a hatchling into adulthood as she swims thousands of miles, meets incredible creatures and has some really wild encounters. She will eventually migrate, with mysterious precision, back to the very beach where she was born – to lay her own eggs that are the foundation of the next generation. That was so fitting for the memories that we were creating with our girls at our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center
It was time to head upstairs to set up camp and enjoy a restful night. We joined other scouts in the morning for breakfast. We couldn’t wait to explore more and proceeded to the Sports Lab Exhibit Gallery with the newest addition, “Cycling to Wellness”, that includes a virtual cycling game, a Build-a-Bike interactive cycling program, which enables children to test their bike designs on various landscapes from a level concrete surface to a rugged mountain trail.
We used our brain and our brawn to compete in hands-on challenges just like a professional athlete. We learned which sport best suits us, tested our strength, saw state-of-the-art sports equipment the pros use and what’s going on inside the athlete’s body. The girls found out at the Invention Dimension if they have what it takes to be the next great inventor. Interestingly enough all of them do because this is a process they went through in 5th Grade for Connecticut Invention Convention.
Our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center proceeded with another unforgettable 3D film experience of the Amazon Adventure that tells the epic, true story of explorer Henry Bates’ fascinating 11-year journey through the visually stunning and biodiverse Amazon rainforest as a young man who risks his life for science in the 1850’s. We experienced the compelling clues Bates unearths in his major discovery of the phenomenon of mimicry, whereby certain animals adopt the look of others that helps them deceive predators and gain an advantage to survive.
We ended our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center browsing the Gift Shop with awe-inspiring science kits, educational toys, tech games, fascinating books, custom souvenirs and apparel, Hartford- and Connecticut-themed items and plush toys. It does help that a portion of every purchase directly supports the Connecticut Science Center and the girls were in a generous mood for themselves and their siblings.
Our memorable Mom and Daughter Girl Scout Overnight Stay At Connecticut Science Center was everything Babygirl K and I needed to connect and create WELLthy MOMents to last us for a lifetime. We are already planning our next outing together and I must say that our night at the science center was definitely a memorable overnight adventure.
