Delicious Homemade Almond Milk was our alternative to store brand almond milk and it saves us so much money to make our own. When Hubby realized that he was a little lactose intolerant, he researched the best milk alternative and settled on almond milk after trying soy milk. He enjoyed a particular store brand and was happy about the outcome.
One Saturday morning, we attended a Family fun Day at our local YMCA with a lot of health vendors present. One of the vendors mentioned to Hubby how she makes her own delicious homemade almond milk and Hubby couldn’t wait to give it a try. All I can say is that even my girls rave about Daddy’s delicious homemade almond milk!!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of organic whole almonds
- distilled water
Soak the almonds in enough water to cover them for at least 8 hours or overnight is even better. Use your fingers to gently pinch the almonds and remove the skin. This is the tedious part of the process but glad to have children who make every opportunity a fun experience.
Put the almonds in a blender with 4 cups of water, general ratio of almond to water is 1 to 2. It can be a little more water but the almond milk will not be as rich.Blending time is 2 minutes for every cup of almonds so we will be blending for 4 minutes for 2 cups of almonds or until smooth.
Pour the mixture in a cheesecloth over a deep large bowl and strain mixture until the liquid is extracted. The girls love that part because they get the chance to play with the pulp, use it as a face scrub or put it in our compost.
Use a small strainer to pour in a glass jar or pitcher and voila: delicious homemade almond milk. We make enough to refrigerate for at most 3 days. It won’t last much longer. My oldest one pours herself a glass right away and tries to convince her little sister to try it on many occasions by adding some date honey or raisins as a sweetener.
Hubby used his delicious homemade almond milk in oatmeal, pancake batter, smoothies, homemade granola, or just as a drink. He says after tasting the delicious homemade almond milk version it is difficult to go back to any of the commercial brands.
Almond milk is source of protein, fiber, calcium and other micro nutrients. As you can see, the almond milk is so versatile you have no reason not to try it. Also anything homemade can be a great money saving tip. I understand that in the current fast pace climate we live, picking up almond mild from the store makes more sense
I would challenge you to try it at least once and when you do please share your experience with me. It gives me so much joy that I can involve our girls in the process of healthy eating and wealth building to make them understand that the choices they make each day can affect their wallet or palate. Here’s to building wealth and whole well-being together!
That looks yummy!!
