Westport Maker Faire

We enjoyed celebrating Earth Day at the 6th annual Westport Maker Faire.  My girls could hardly wait for the day to come.  I was actually sharing with them how blessed they are to experience such wonder-filled events.  Hubby and I are firm believers in training our children in the way they should go.  We support this belief by letting our girls experience the many fun possibilities that lie before them.

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments and projects. We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth: a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.

My girls love everything STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) so they were in wonderland at the Westport Maker Faire.  From robots and fidget spinners to lying down on a bed of nails, we love collecting these hands-on and fun creative MOMents with our girls.

When you are part of nap time nation, thanks to a toddler who needs her beauty sleep, you leave when Babygirl shows signs that she is ready for sleep but Hubby and the oldest two stayed for the entire day.  When they came home, they couldn’t stop talking about the fun they had.

I asked them what their favorite Westport Maker Faire exhibit was.  My toddler couldn’t stop talking about the Huckbuster robot.  My middle was so proud of herself for lying down on a bed of nails and I still can’t believe my eyes.  My oldest was all about Troxes and still talking about it.  Hubby, being an engineer, was simply happy to share his world with his girls.

The whole day reminded me how important as parents to be intentional in creating fun learning experiences for our children and thankful for STEM events like Westport Maker Faire to bring STEM education outside of the four walls of school.
