Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain Park

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkOur Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain Park took our family to the 135-acre municipal park that offers hiking trails, rock climbing, nature study, and campsites in Monroe, Connecticut. The park backs up onto land where a historic castle building and residences for nuns are located. The park has diverse flora including numerous kinds of trees, shrubs, and ferns that not only add to the aesthetic value of the place but provide an ideal setting for some amateur as well as scientific study of the local plants. The park is adjacent to the town-owned Webb Mountain Discovery Zone.

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkWebb Mountain Trail is a 1.6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. Babygirl didn’t get the memo and I am glad that she knows that she has her Daddy to carry her on his shoulders when needed. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkOur Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain Park started with getting instructions for a fun nature scavenger hunt and so if you are with kids, expect several stops to view all kinds of animals/insects, plants/trees, and the never ending rock collecting. We also downloaded the app Plantsnap to learn about some of the plants specifics to Webb Mountain Park like Mountain Laurel or Indian Pipe.

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkDid you know that there are more trees in Connecticut today because over time as land use changed and farming was replaced by industry, the landscape reverted to the forest it once was? We took a snack break along the hike and rewarded ourselves with the wonderful view at Hay Field.

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkWe came across single species of tree frog, home to Connecticut, that while often heard is seldom seen. The tree frogs is well camouflaged with skin that looks like lichen and blends in with tree park.  It’s important for us not only to explore the beauty of nature around but to learn about our Natural Connecticut during our hiking adventures to Webb Mountain Park.

Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain ParkWe learned along our hiking adventures that the rocks found in Monroe were formed from heat and pressure within the Earth. Did you know that if a rock shows small minerals occuring in distinct bands, it is probably gneiss? I did not know that and why it’s important as a family to enjoy the outdoors around us. Our Hiking Adventures To Webb Mountain Park was one for the memory book and we appreciate the fact that it targets wellness and education, a combination that is part of the 6 pillars that makes for our WELLthy family lifestyle.
